DEPARTMENT OF Physics

The Department of Physics was established in the year 1989. The Department offers a four year degree programme B.Sc. (H) Physics . This program provides a comprehensive education spanning from fundamental principles to practical applications of physics.

After the completion of the B.Sc. (H) Physics program, students are presented with numerous pathways for further education and career advancement. They can opt for higher academic pursuits such as M.Sc. (Physics) or specialized programs like M.Tech. in areas such as Solid State Physics, Opto-Electronics, and Radio Physics and Electronics. Additionally, avenues like the Diploma in Radiological Physics conducted by BARC and Integrated Ph.D. Programs offer further opportunities for specialized learning. Furthermore, graduates of this program are well-equipped for diverse career opportunities. They can explore roles such as Senior Technical Assistant B (STA B) in DRDO, Junior Executive (ATC) in Airports Authority of India, or positions as Scientific Officers in esteemed organizations like BARC, PRL, and NPL.

The Department is actively engaged in enhancing students' academic experience by offering a diverse range of activities. These include seminars, webinars, workshops, and training programs. By providing such opportunities, the Department not only facilitates continuous learning but also cultivates a culture of innovation and knowledge sharing among students. Moreover, the Department places a strong emphasis on promoting values-based education.

The Department has its student society named “Tachyons”. This society along with the faculties annually organizes various technical and non-technical activities. Among these activities is the eagerly anticipated technical fest named "TRAP," which serves as a platform for students to showcase their prowess in various technical domains. Student society brings out a annual magazine "Inspira-fusis," which serves as a valuable resource for students and enthusiasts alike. This magazine is dedicated to providing readers with a comprehensive insight into the latest technologies, research findings, and developments within the realm of physics. Moreover, the magazine not only inspires curiosity but also empowers readers to explore the limitless possibilities within the realm of scientific inquiry.

The Department of Physics has state-of-the-art research lab wherein the students build their foundation on the principles of physics thereby enhancing the scientific temperament. The department has three well-equipped labs namely

  • Physics Lab 1
  • Physics Lab 2
  • Computational Physics Lab

These laboratories are equipped with instruments/apparatus such as Hall Effect, Electromagnets (up to 1 Tesla), He-Ne lasers, Polarimeters, Optical benches, Spectrometer, Sodium & Hydrogen lamps, Digital Storage Oscilloscopes, Cathode Ray Oscilloscopes, Function generators, Power supplies, Multimeters, 8085 Microprocessor kits etc. to aid the learning process and meet the practical requirements. The computational physics lab is enriched with Free/Open Source Software such as FORTRAN 90, SCILAB, LATEX, and GNUPLOT, TINA etc.

Departmental Library: The Department has a collection of academic books maintained within the labs. Students and teachers both can use this facility during practicals and otherwise to prepare their lectures.

Internet facilities for staff & students: The Department has computer systems with Internet facility. They are available for both staff and students to access web.
