The mushroom market is growing due to their culinary, nutritional, and health benefits.
However, there exists a skill gap in areas such as cultivation techniques, market access, post-
harvest handling, quality control, scaling production, and research & innovation. To address
this, Saheed Rajguru College initiated mushroom cultivation on campus in 2020 under the
guidance of Prof. Payal Mago. Furthermore, the Department of Microbiology organized an
'Online Entrepreneurship & Faculty Development Program' on Edible Mushrooms from 15th
- 19th February 2021. This program aimed to equip participants with the necessary skills for
successful mushroom cultivation. Microbiology has been organizing a certificate program in
mushroom cultivation since 2020. Various types of mushrooms i.e., king oyster, pink oyster,
black Oyster, White oyster mushrooms, button mushrooms, and Cordyceps are cultivated in
the college premises throughout the year.
